Salford’s Deputy City Mayor welcomes first resident to new affordable housing development in Ordsall
The Deputy City Mayor of Salford (and Lead Member for Housing and Neighbourhoods), Councillor Tracy Kelly, joined representatives from Great Places Housing Group, Dérive and Watson Homes to visit the first phase of a new affordable housing development at Jane Street, Salford.
Delivered by Great Places and Dérive and built by Watson Homes, the new development (scheduled to complete in October), will provide a mix of 43 much needed two and three bed houses and one and two bed cottage flats for affordable and social rent.
Matthew Harrison, Chief Executive of Great Places said: “We’re delighted to welcome the Deputy City Mayor to Jane Street. This is an excellent example of truly affordable social housing, providing much needed quality homes for people with a local connection. Great Places is totally committed to creating great homes that create great communities and Jane Street will do just that.”
The Deputy City Mayor was joined by Great Places’ Chief Executive, Matthew Harrison and Mike Watson from Watson Homes. During her visit, she welcomed Great Places’ new customer, Simon Kelsall to his new home.
Commenting on his new home, Simon Kelsall, said: "I’m so proud and happy with my flat. It's spacious and finished to a high standard - having a garden is an added bonus! There's a nice community here already and I'm looking forward to the future in my new place."
Deputy City Mayor, Councillor Tracy Kelly (who is also a Director of Dérive) said: “I’d like to thank Great Places and Watson Homes for working with Dérive to deliver these beautiful and much needed affordable new homes for local people. As a 100 per cent affordable housing for rent, Jane Street is a shining example of how we can address both the shortage of affordable housing in the City and the wider national housing crisis.”
Mike Watson, Director at Watson Homes, added: “At Watson Homes, it’s part of our fabric to help bring to life those developments that we feel will truly benefit local people. It's been great to be part of this exciting build for Great Places, creating yet more affordable homes for local residents. We can't wait to see this new community thrive over the coming years.”
Through Dérive we’re investing in high-quality truly affordable homes for future generations in the city. The rents will be our own Salford rents.
